Night blindness: causes and symptoms

Night blindness is a disease that affects the retina because of vitamin A deficiency or glaucoma or cataracts, according to the German Ophthalmological Society.

The association explained that night blindness’s symptoms include deterioration of vision at night or in dim light, involuntary trembling in the eye, sensitivity to glare, frequent redness and inflammation of the eye, dryness of the cornea, and the appearance of gray bubbles on the sclera.

If caused by vitamin A deficiency, night blindness can be treated by the consumption of foods rich in vitamin A, such as carrots, potatoes, peaches, and apricots.

If the cause is glaucoma or cataracts, the underlying disease should be treated.
