Washington and return to the Middle East

The US President’s visit to Saudi Arabia, which comes during Joe Biden’s first visit to the Middle East, represents a confirmation of Saudi Arabia’s great importance to US politics, as well as an appreciation of Riyadh’s critical role in enhancing the region and the world’s security and economy, and in light of Saudi Arabia’s important position in the Middle East, this visit underpins the US political and military interest in the region.

The international order is clearly witnessing a shift from unipolarity to multipolarity, and the middle east has maintained its importance at the international level during this transformation, as one of the most important regions in the world, because of its strategic location, natural resources, especially oil and natural gas, as well as the main sea lanes linking the East and West.

Therefore, the Russian and Chinese race to strengthen their presence in the region, prompted Washington to correct the mistake it made when it expressed a desire to turn towards East Asia at the expense of its presence in the Middle East.

President Biden’s visit to the kingdom comes as an affirmation of resetting the compass of American strategy, the united states’ efforts to build bridges with the Arab world and a confirmation that the path towards maintaining an important position in this region passes through Saudi Arabia as the region’s main pillar of stability, and the leading country in the regional system.

Therefore Biden’s visit to the kingdom will help the US be more active regarding the region’s files as well as the restructuring of American political and strategic thinking to balance the American desire to strengthen its presence in the East Asian region and maintain its presence in the Middle East.

Washington realizes that returning to the Middle East requires the reformulation of its political positions in line with influential and active countries’ positions in the region, such as Saudi Arabia.

Therefore, American policy has been working for some time to create a fertile ground for political rapprochement with Saudi Arabia, especially regarding the Yemen file.

Washington emphasized the importance of the Kingdom’s role, which was vital to the achievement of the armistice in Yemen as well as its support for the Kingdom’s efforts in its leadership of the Arab coalition.

The regional meeting Saudi Arabia is hosting in conjunction with Biden’s visit will help push American policy to the correct position on many Arab issues as well as the ongoing negotiations with Iran regarding the nuclear agreement, as Washington has realized the necessity of taking the Arab vision regarding Iranian nuclear agreement into account, thus creating balance in regards to the nuclear file in line with the stability of the region.
