The Emirati project and the Arab stance

The Arab consensus, without any  reservation, on the Emirati draft resolution in the Arab League, which demands the classification of “Ansar Allah” Houthis as a terrorist organization, is considered a success for the diplomacy of the Arab coalition to support Yemeni legitimacy in exposing the Houthi militias and the reality of their goals that not only target the Yemeni people to demolish the Yemeni State, but rather goes beyond to target the security and stability of the region, threatening international peace and security, and the global economy. This Arab consensus undoubtedly confirms the extent to which joint Arab action is able to unite ranks in the face of challenges and threats that target Arab national security.

The Emirati draft resolution calling for the designation of “Ansar Allah” Houthis as a terrorist organization is of great importance in its timing, as it comes at a time when Western political decision-making centers, especially the US, are witnessing a political movement to reclassify the Houthis as a “terrorist organization”, especially by Republicans in Congress. The American newspaper, “Washington Free Beacon”, confirms that the Republicans in Congress are working to pave the way for the re-application of sanctions on militias, which were lifted by the administration of President Joe Biden and classified as a terrorist organization, which gives the Emirati draft resolution an importance that goes beyond uniting the Arab ranks to the mobilization at the international level to classify The Houthis are a “terrorist organisation”.

The Arab League is part of the international order, as it is affected by what is happening on the international arena, and it also affects the international political arena, the international political vision in general, and the US in particular, towards the Yemeni file and the terrorist tampering practiced by the Houthi militia, and therefore the timing of the Emirati draft resolution and the Arab consensus that it won will cast a shadow over American policy, and thus contribute to raising the chances of the Republicans’ endeavors within the US Congress to re-categorize the Houthis as a “terrorist organisation”.

The method of international management of the Yemeni file plays an important role in the course of events on Yemeni soil, and therefore the step taken by the administration of US President Joe Biden to cancel the designation of the Houthis as a “terrorist organization” contributed to obstructing the political settlement of the Yemeni file, because it gave the Houthis an outlet and an opportunity to consider this step as it may reflect a change in the international political orientation in general, and the US in particular, towards the Yemeni file, which made them continue their terrorist acts, resort to military escalation, and abort political solutions, but the changes taking place in the US Congress by the Republicans to reclassify the Houthis as a “terrorist organization” is undoubtedly, a step that will contribute to setting the compass of the American political vision towards the Yemeni file.
