Emirati Defence Industries: Pride and Achievement

It is our right to take pride in the great success achieved by the United Arab Emirates, as it continues to accomplish various feats recognized far and wide.

These achievements, realised and ongoing, are the result of the dedication of the generous sons and daughters of this nation. They have made everyone realize one truth: nothing is impossible in the UAE.

A prominent example of these accomplishments is the Emirati defence industry.

The UAE has developed a robust defence industry strategy, significantly contributing to the establishment of a solid defence sector within the nation. This has provided both local and international defence companies with real opportunities for investment and growth in this emerging national industry.

The UAE’s success in the field of defence industries is not coincidental; rather, it stems from a deeply rooted ideology and a commitment from our leaders to keep pace with progress and growth. This commitment traces back to the era of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to this day.

Emirati defence industries began in 1975 under the visionary leadership of Sheikh Zayed, who emphasized the importance of supporting any agreement that enhances Arab solidarity in facing challenges and risks.

Thus the UAE participated in establishing the Arab Organization for Industrialization and Emirati defence industries continued to work steadfastly until 2007 when the first Emirati achievement in this regard was realized with the manufacturing of the first national firearm, the Caracal pistol, proudly labelled as “Made in the UAE.”

Moreover, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the UAE has given this industry substantial and comprehensive support, providing it with the requirements for excellence, innovation, and competition in global markets.

In addition to His Highness’s ambitious vision and extensive experience in defence and military industries, the trained Emirati talents are capable of keeping up with advancements and progress.

Today, the UAE is steadily advancing to enhance the competitiveness of its defence industry. Over the years, the country has built an advanced and robust foundation for defence and military industries, with numerous national companies participating, including 180 national companies participating in the 2023 editions of IDEX and NAVDEX.

The UAE has achieved self-sufficiency in several military industries and has even progressed to exporting various types of industries, equipment, and machinery to many countries worldwide.

Recognized worldwide, the UAE’s success in the local Emirati defence industries confirms the sound approach and the righteous path it is taking towards progress and prosperity in various fields, not just in the military but in all aspects.

Armed with knowledge, unity, advanced infrastructure, men who know no limits, and visionary leaders with unwavering determination, the UAE continues its march forward towards a bright future.
