US Army has deployed for the first time the first prototype of an offensive short-range laser weapon. The US Air Force’s DE M-SHORAD solid-state laser system was developed and mounted on a Stryker combat vehicle, where it participated for the first time in combat shooting as part of a recent US military exercise.
The new laser system is the result of the combined efforts of the US Army’s Office of Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies, the Air and Missile Defense Cross-Functional Team, the Fire Center of Excellence, the US Army’s Test and Evaluation Command.
