The latest version of the US “advanced precision killing” system

BAE Systems has unveiled the latest version of its laser guidance kit for a system known as Advanced Precision-Kill Weapon System (APKWS).

Advanced guidance devices help transform conventional rokets into intelligent precision munitions. Modifications increase the effective range of APKWS guided rokets by 30% and develop the ability to bombard with a larger angle of attack.

The APKWS system also deploys four in-flight fins for sensing and guidance purposes. The edges of the fins are equipped with sensors that rely on a technology known as “Distributed Aperture Semi-Active Laser Seeker Technology” (DASALS). Once activated, the system performs quick calculations to determine the optimal angle of attack and guide the rocket, in order to have the strongest effect.
