Saudis negotiate acquiring Russian air defence systems, S-400s and Su-35s

Three years after the two countries signed a military cooperation agreement, Saudi Arabia is negotiating with Russia the purchase of S-400 air defence systems and Su-35 jets.

The Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) has an ambitious goal of producing 50% of defence equipment by 2030. Partnerships with Russia in this area include localizing production technology of the S-400 missile system, the Kornet-EM system, and TOS-1A “Solntsepëk” launchers and heavy flame launcher (Soviet 220mm 30-24-barrel rocket launcher and thermobaric weapon mounted on a T-72 tank chassis), and AGS-30 automatic grenade launcher and AK-103 Kalashnikov assault rifles.
