Russia is testing a new Alexandrit-class minesweeper developed for the Russian Navy.

During the test, the crew will verify the operation of the vessel’s major systems, communications, and navigation equipment. Upon successful completion of all required trials, the ship will enter service with the fleet.

The minesweeper has a hull made of special plastic and metal alloys making it difficult for magnetic sea mines to detect. It is also equipped with advanced sonar, and remotely operated underwater vehicles to aid with mine detection and disposal.

Each ship in the class measures about 61m long and 10m wide, with a displacement of 890 tons. It can transport a crew of 44 at a speed of 16.5 knots.
