Northrop working on defeating hypersonic missiles

No threat is static‭. ‬Today‭, ‬the world faces the challenge of hypersonic missiles and maneuvering reentry vehicles that can move‭ ‬through the atmosphere at more than five times the speed of sound‭. ‬Protecting one’s homeland and regional forces against these modern destructive weapons is a significant challenge‭. ‬Northrop Grumman is working on groundbreaking solutions to help defeat modern hypersonic missiles in various phases of flight‭.‬
Transformational missile defence requires a pioneering combination of current and emerging technologies expertly brought together to neutralize the threat‭. ‬
Northrop Grumman has sources lately stressed that it has the expertise‭, ‬talent and technology required to tackle the challenge of defeating hypersonic maneuvering vehicles and advanced cruise missiles‭. ‬
According to Aviation Week‭, ‬the U.S‭. ‬Air Force is studying options for a hypersonic demonstrator‭, ‬including potentially a return‭ ‬to rocket-based combined-cycle concepts similar to the X-43B project that was canceled in the 2000s‭. ‬To fully exploit the military utility of hypersonic speed in roles beyond high-speed weapons‭, ‬the U.S‭. ‬Air Force is stepping up its decades-long quest to‭ ‬develop a combined-cycle air-breathing system‭.‬
