The AW249 is a concept attack helicopter under development by the Italian company Leonardo SBA.
Officially, Leonardo began to develop the AW249 helicopter after the Italian Army signed a 487 million euros contract to replace the Agusta A129 Mangusta attack helicopters.
The AW249 will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and will draw on Leonardo’s leading designs.
The open systems design will enable future upgrades, and the advanced communications and battlefield management system will provide interoperability with other platforms in a network-based battlefield.
Furthermore, The Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suite (AIDEWS) will ensure the survivability of the AW249, which meets the most stringent safety requirements.
