Israeli defence systems company Rafael has announced that it is developing a new interceptor missile called SkySonic, specifically designed to counter the threat of hypersonic missiles.
The company stated that SkySonic has exceptional manoeuvrability and high-speed capabilities. It effectively neutralizes hypersonic missiles, which travel at speeds ten times the speed of sound, with unprecedented accuracy.
The development of a comprehensive defensive response to hypersonic threats poses several complex challenges, including detection and tracking difficulties that require a synchronized sensor system capable of accurately identifying and locating the threat throughout its trajectory.
