The Egyptian Army has revealed an image of an Egyptian Mi-17V5 helicopter equipped with the Russian President-S electronic protection system and the engine exhaust thermal signature suppressor.
The President-S system is designed to protect combat aircraft and helicopters from anti-aircraft heat and radiation -seeking missiles, and the system detects and identifies the threats, warns the crew, activates countermeasures, and recommends the appropriate elusive maneuver by displaying the threat level, and through audio signals. The system works automatically, and it can work in semi-automatic and manual modes.
The thermal signature suppressor of the engine exhaust is installed at the exhaust outlets of the helicopter, and it reduces thermal emissions of the exhaust, which reduces the exposure to detection by heat-seeking systems.
