British Royal Air Force to receive an unmanned combat aircraft

The RAF announced that it was close to receiving unmanned combat aircraft. It said that the US company Spirit AeroSystems had signed a contract with the British Ministry of Defence to provide the latter with unmanned combat aircraft. It added: The UK’s 1st fleet of unmanned combat aircraft is about to receive, with a £ 30m contract signed with Spirit AeroSystems, a prototype designed and manufactured by the latter and capable of providing a battle-winning advantage for the RAF.

The Defense Ministry said the Loyal Wingman would be the first British unmanned platform capable of targeting and shooting down enemy aircraft and is survivabile against surface-to-air missiles.
