BAE SYSTEMS to evolve electronic warfare capabilities of F-35

BAE SYSTEMS has received a $493 million modified contract from Lockheed Martin to upgrade and modernize the F-35 Lightning II’s electronic warfare (EW) system, enabling the fifth-generation fighter to detect and deal with advanced electromagnetic threats quickly on the battlefields.

Under the new contract, BAE Systems will provide improved core hardware and capabilities for the F-35’s high-performance electronic warfare mission system, known as AN/ASQ-239, and support services, as well as engineering and testing infrastructure. The upgraded system will improve the already superior situational awareness, electromagnetic attack capabilities, and countermeasures with new sensors and more powerful signal processing.
