Al-Jundi: A History and Future in Service of the UAE

For fifty years Al-Jundi Magazine has served the UAE, publishing its military news with high professionalism and skill, providing its people with all the military information they need, and it continues to provide valuable coverage.

Thus it is only fitting that we celebrate and take pride in the contribution of this magazine.

It is truly an honour and a major achievement for productivity and credibility to endure over all those years.

For the past 50 years, Al-Jundi Magazine has provided tremendous services to its followers, covering all military events of the Armed Forces, setting an excellent example, with its name “Al-Jundi” (meaning the soldier) truthfully reflecting the role of the prestigious military institution that has given and continues to give so much to the nation and citizens.

Celebrating Al-Jundi’s golden jubilee is indeed a source of pride and honour for all of us, writers and readers alike.

For productivity and remarkable work to continue for fifty years is no coincidence, but rather the product of the enlightened mindset, organisation, forward-looking perspective, clear vision, and strong approach that the magazine has been following since its inception in 1973.

Al-Jundi’s establishment was the result of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Minister of Defence at the time, who in his wisdom, foresight, and enlightened thinking used the magazine to enrich citizens’ knowledge about their military institution, its progress and prosperity.

Since its first issue was published in October 1973, Al-Jundi recognised the importance of its duties towards the UAE and its citizens, conveyed an honest and accurate image of the military, and provided more news that suited the needs of citizens.

Throughout its journey, Al-Jundi hosted many military leaders, and published information citizens needed to know about the progress of their military institutions, addressing everyone locally and abroad, until it became a trusted source of pride.

The security of the UAE, preserving its strength, unity and progress, is a line no one has the right to cross, and as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has expressed on many occasions no one is allowed to undermine the security and stability of the nation.

Security is the cornerstone of progress and building civilisations, as Allah says in the Quran: “Let them worship the Lord of this House, who has fed them [saving them] from hunger and made them safe [saving them] from fear.”

This is Al-Jundi Magazine’s approach, which is based on the necessity of publishing honest news to help everyone feel safe and secure, and over the years it was truly the voice of the nation’s protectors and a valuable resource.

As long as vigilant guardians stand ready, the nation will continue to thrive.
