National Identity and Youth Empowerment in the UAE

National identity plays a fundamental role in shaping the personality and character of young individuals and influencing their future. It instills in them values and principles that they can rely on in various aspects of life as well as pride in their history, culture, and national traditions.

National identity enhances social integration and solidarity among members of society and serves as a catalyst for innovation and creativity, as young people feel a sense of responsibility towards developing their country and contributing to its future. These points are articulated within the following three axes:

First: Youth Role in Planning and Formulating Future Government Policies

Activating the role of youth and involving them in shaping government policies leads to positive change and continuous improvement through several means:

  1. Political and Electoral Participation: Encouraging youth participation in the electoral process and obtaining seats in governmental and legislative bodies enables them to effectively represent their voices and advocate for their demands.
  2. Communication and Transparency: Governments should enhance open communication and transparency with youth through youth forums, and accelerator labs, and involve them in reviewing governmental decisions and exchanging ideas related to shaping the future.

Second: Foundations of Identity from Cultural, Islamic, National, and Arab Aspects

National identity consists of several aspects, including culture, religion, language, history, and heritage:

  1. The Cultural Aspect: Reflecting the cultural diversity and richness of the Arab and Islamic region through arts, literature, architecture, and folk heritage, as such elements preserve the cultural identity of peoples and countries in the region.
  2. The Religious Aspect: Islam plays a significant role in defining individual and societal religious identity and moral values.
  3. The Linguistic Aspect: The Arabic language serves as a primary means of communication and expression of cultural and religious identity, forming an essential part of national identity.

Third: Impact of Talents on Enhancing National Identity Among Youth

Talents and national identity are interdependent, with each complementing the other to form a comprehensive and integrated image of the nation. When youth can express themselves through their talents, they contribute to enriching national identity by adding dimensions that resonate with the local environment, fostering a sense of belonging and reinforcing their sense of responsibility.

In conclusion, it is essential to highlight the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in youth empowerment and ensuring their active participation. This includes appointing a Minister of State for Youth and implementing several initiatives to promote national identity and establish a policy of youth engagement through the creation of the Federal Youth Authority, allowing youth to have a voice in all matters.
