US Military Receives New Air Defence System

The US military will soon receive a new air defence system designed to counter incoming cruise missiles and attack drones.

The new system, called Indirect Fire Protection Capability IFPC Increment 2, is comparable to Israel’s Iron Dome and NASAMS air defence system.

Defence against cruise missiles and drones has been identified as a significant capability gap in the Army’s layered defence strategy designed to create rings of security around soldiers and assets near the battlefront.

The US Army’s Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Centre’s chief engineer on the program said that the army plans to deploy 4 permanent shield launchers and establish 360-degree defence zones.
