Thailand equips its navy with new war frigates

The Royal Thai Navy has requested $457 million over the next five years to fund its plan to acquire a new Bhumibol Adulyadej-class frigate.

The request was made through the Ministry of Defence in a budgetary plan proposed for the 2024 fiscal year.

The Thai Navy currently owns a single Bhumibol Adulyadej-class frigate, which it ordered in 2013 from the South Korean company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd.

The frigate is equipped with a variety of sensors, processing systems, and electronic warfare systems, including Saab SEA GIRAFFE AMB radar.

The frigate comes armed with 76 mm OTO Melara cannons, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, RIM-162 ESSM anti-air missiles, 12.7 and 30 mm machine guns, and 324 mm torpedoes.
