Australian Army replaces the French “Tiger” with the American “Apache”

Australia has selected the Boeing AH-64E BlockIII Apache Guardian helicopter to meet the needs of Armed Reconnaissance Aircraft (ARH) from 2025.

The current “Tiger” helicopter will be replaced by an American Apache helicopter. 29 “Apache” helicopters will be introduced to replace the 22 currently- operating “Tiger” helicopters.

“The capabilities of the new ARH armed reconnaissance aircraft will enhance the Australian Army reconnaissance force to better shape our strategic environment and deter actions that are contrary to our national interest,” said Defence Secretary Linda Reynolds.

Australia’s decision will make it the seventh user of AH-64 helicopters in the Asia-Pacific region, as the countries that use this type in the region are India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
