Italy builds new rescue ships for its navy

The Norwegian company Kongsberg Maritime is set to deliver Italy a host of equipment to a newbuild vessel, called SDO-SuRS, which is under development for the navy.

In 2020, the Italian Ministry of Defence signed a contract with T.Marriotti to obtain a new rescue ship for the military which is scheduled for delivery in 2025.

The SDO-SuRS is 120 m long, and 22 m wide, and has a water displacement of 8,600 tons.

Furthermore, the vessel can transport 200 people, sail at a speed of 16 knots, travel 5,000 miles per mission, and will be equipped with platforms for EH-101 Helicopters.
