The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, God rest his soul, left behind a great legacy of giving and aid to various countries in different parts of the world, and our wise leadership followed his example in giving out humanitarian aid without discrimination.
From 2010 to 2021, the UAE’s humanitarian aid amounted to 206 billion and 34 million dirhams, which makes the UAE one of the largest donor countries in the world.
This included developmental aid, in the form of loans or grants, which made up more than 87% of the total UAE foreign aid.
Many may wonder about the form of this aid and ask why does the UAE take on such huge expenditures?
The answer to this question can be best summarized by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who said before the Federal National Council, “Linking humanitarian aid to a political agenda is incompatible with the humanitarian aspect of this aid.”
The UAE humanitarian aid has no links to the political orientation of the country receiving it but is given freely as a good deed, which in turn promotes peace, enhances national security, and increases everyone’s love for the UAE.
Furthermore, this aid helps in the development of foreign relations, giving the UAE a prominent position among the countries of the world, which was evident in the speech of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, God bless him, who stressed that humanitarian aid should be available to all, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity, as demonstrated when the UAE provided aid to many countries to help fight the outbreak of “Covid-19”.
This humanitarian aid strengthens the UAE’s position at all levels, Arab, Islamic and international, making it a global hub for tolerance, humanity, and love among people.
