Omar Sultan Al Olama Appointed to Artificial Intelligence Governance Committee

The World Economic Forum has announced the selection of His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of the UAE for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, and the Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, as a member of the Artificial Intelligence Governance Committee.

This committee comprises ten elite global figures in the digital and technological fields.

The Artificial Intelligence Governance Committee is a specialized initiative focused on productive artificial intelligence and its responsible use. Its goal is to innovate solutions to the most important challenges arising from the technological revolution in social and economic domains.

Moreover, it aims to develop supportive recommendations for decision-makers worldwide and unify global efforts to enhance the benefits of productive artificial intelligence systems and solutions, ensuring a sustainable digital future.

His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama emphasized that his appointment to the Artificial Intelligence Governance Committee reflects the leading position of the UAE government. This position has been achieved through the wise guidance of the leadership in effectively participating in leading the world towards the future.

He further underscored the nation’s future vision in developing digital domains and focusing on building an advanced digital economy that leverages technological potential to create exceptional opportunities that ensure sustainable progress.

He stated that membership in the Artificial Intelligence Governance Committee provides an opportunity to share the UAE’s experiences with the world as well as a platform to introduce solutions to the challenges of productive artificial intelligence and the practices developed in the UAE in this futuristic field.

It also serves as an incubator to enhance global partnerships aimed at advancing the role of these technologies in shaping the future of artificial intelligence and generating new ideas with technology leaders at the World Economic Forum.

The committee’s membership includes Paula Ingabire, Minister of Information Technology and Communications in Rwanda, Brad Smith, Vice Chairman and President of Microsoft, Kent Walker, Senior Vice President of Global Affairs at Google, Nick Clegg, Vice President of Global Affairs at Meta Platforms, Gary Koehn, Executive Vice President of Qualcomm Technologies, Dr Xue Lan, Professor and Dean of the Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University, Lin Parker, Assistant Vice President and Managing Director of the “TENNESSEE” Artificial Intelligence Initiative at the Tennessee Technological University, and Andrew Ng, Founder and CEO of “Landing AI.”

Through its continuous experience spanning more than 50 years, the World Economic Forum seeks to build successful partnerships and bring together global technology leaders in the Artificial Intelligence Governance Committee. This aims to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors, keeping pace with the developments and challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, achieving global goals for a better quality of life, and forming a global approach to anticipate the transformative systems of productive artificial intelligence.

The World Economic Forum selected His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama in 2017 to be a member of the Digital Economy and Society Future Council. He was also chosen in April of last year as a member of the Young Global Leaders Community for 2022.
