UAE Reinforces Global Leadership as Strategic Partner for Upcoming AI Summit and Host of 2028 Edition

The United Arab Emirates has announced that it will host the Artificial Intelligence Summit in 2028, following the next edition to be co-hosted by the Swiss Confederation and the UAE in Geneva in 2027. The move underscores the country’s growing global leadership and its position as a hub for shaping the future of advanced technology and responsible international AI policymaking.

The announcement was made during the AI Impact Summit 2026, held in New Delhi from 16 to 20 February 2026. The decision reflects the UAE’s continued commitment to strengthening international cooperation in advanced technologies, forging strategic partnerships, accelerating innovation ecosystems, and harnessing artificial intelligence solutions to drive sustainable development across key sectors.

His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, affirmed that under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE believes that shaping the future of artificial intelligence requires constructive international dialogue and integrated collaboration among governments, institutions and decision-makers.

He emphasised that the UAE’s role centres on building bridges of cooperation and dialogue among nations, while creating platforms that facilitate knowledge exchange and the formulation of joint policies to promote the responsible use of AI. This approach aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies in ways that serve societies and deliver optimal outcomes for the international community.

The UAE’s leadership role over two consecutive summit cycles reflects growing international confidence in its balanced approach, which combines rapid innovation with robust and responsible regulatory frameworks. This model seeks to ensure the development of safe, ethical and inclusive AI technologies that place people first, while reinforcing the country’s strategic vision as an active global partner in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

The partnership with the Swiss Confederation represents an advanced model of international cooperation rooted in the exchange of expertise in innovation and technology policy. It aims to establish global standards that support the safe and trustworthy use of AI, while promoting flexible and balanced governance frameworks that enhance trust in AI applications and ensure alignment with human values and international ethical principles.

This collaboration also provides a strategic platform for developing globally applicable regulatory frameworks, sharing best practices in managing technological risks, and strengthening national and institutional capacities. Such efforts enable countries to maximise the potential of artificial intelligence while mitigating its associated challenges.

The Artificial Intelligence Summit serves as a leading global platform that brings together government leaders, policymakers, technology pioneers, experts and representatives of international organisations. It aims to explore AI’s role in shaping the future of economies and societies, unify international efforts to exchange best practices, develop practical and implementable policies, and strengthen cross-border partnerships.

Through hosting the 2028 edition, the UAE further cements its status as a key driver of international AI governance, championing transparency, responsibility and sustainable growth, while expanding opportunities for knowledge transfer, capacity building in developing nations, and collective action to address shared global challenges.
