South Korea Unveils L-SAM Missile as Alternative to US Systems

South Korea has released the first image of an air-to-air missile variant integrated into its domestically developed L-SAM long-range air defence system.

While the L-SAM-I was originally designed for high-altitude intercepts against ballistic missiles, the new air-to-air missile component significantly enhances its ability to counter low-altitude threats, such as enemy aircraft and cruise missiles.

Mass production of the L-SAM is now under way, alongside the development of a naval variant intended to replace US-made SM missiles. Seoul is also aiming to expand defence exports to markets in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.
