South Korea has successfully tested a next-generation radar system designed to significantly enhance its aerial detection and surveillance capabilities, particularly against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The new system features photonic radar technology, which utilizes modulated light signals instead of traditional radio waves. This innovation offers higher resolution, improved resistance to electronic countermeasures, and superior detection of small or low-observable airborne targets.
Integrated with advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, the radar is engineered to identify low radar cross-section objects, such as small drones, even in cluttered or low-contrast environments. During recent trials, the system successfully detected long-range miniature UAVs. However, specific details regarding detection range or target size have not been disclosed due to military security concerns.
