Hanwha Systems has begun large-scale production of its domestically developed Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar for South Korea’s next-generation KF-21 Boramae multirole fighter.
The Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) and Hanwha Systems marked the milestone with a production launch ceremony on 5 August at the company’s research and development centre in Yongin.
According to Hanwha Systems, this is the first AESA radar designed and manufactured in South Korea specifically for integration into the KF-21, which is being developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI). The start of production follows a major manufacturing agreement signed earlier this year, under which 40 radar units will be delivered between 2025 and 2028.
