Saudi Arabia is developing a laser-guided “smart bullet” in a bid to cement its position as an advanced industrial and military power. The innovation not only promises to enhance sniper accuracy but could also spark a regional revolution in precision-guided munitions, potentially reshaping battlefield dynamics.
The project aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategy, which prioritises acquiring advanced weapons technologies and localising 50 per cent of defence spending.
According to initial estimates, the Saudi smart bullet features a miniature laser sensor to detect guidance signals, precision-adjustable fins to correct trajectory mid-flight, and an effective range of up to 2 kilometres with a margin of error of only a few centimetres. The system also integrates compensation for wind drift and thermal deviation.
