Rheinmetall Unveils New SSW40 Automatic Grenade Launcher

German defence company Rheinmetall has showcased its new Squad Support Weapon 40 (SSW40) during a live-fire demonstration at its Unterlüß test centre in Germany.

Marking a significant milestone in infantry firepower, the SSW40 is the world’s first magazine-fed, shoulder-fired automatic grenade launcher, specifically designed for the new 40 mm × 46 medium-velocity ammunition.

The SSW40 offers a unique combination of flexibility, precision, and destructive power, while maintaining the handling characteristics of an assault rifle.

Compact and ergonomically designed, the weapon weighs approximately four kilograms and measures around 80 centimetres in length. It features intuitive controls, including a dual-function safety switch and an easy-to-operate magazine release.
