German defence manufacturer Rheinmetall and US defence giant Lockheed Martin have announced the launch of the Fuchs JAGM, the world’s first purpose-built tank destroyer.
The new armoured platform is equipped with 24 vertically launched JAGM or Hellfire missiles, providing exceptional firepower and the ability to engage both ground and aerial threats without the need for frequent reloading. Its advanced sensor suite enables the detection, tracking, and engagement of multiple targets in quick succession.
Based on the Fuchs Evolution 6×6 vehicle, the system incorporates a series of upgrades, including an improved powertrain, anti-lock braking, central tyre inflation, and a digital electrical system. It is fully NATO-compliant and offers enhanced protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats, while also providing a more spacious interior for the crew.
The JAGM missile itself features dual-mode guidance, a maximum range of 16 kilometres, and a tandem high-explosive warhead. Following extensive field testing, it has demonstrated a high level of effectiveness against heavily armoured targets.
