Finnish defence manufacturer Patria has successfully completed live-fire testing of its new ARVE wheeled self-propelled howitzer, marking a significant milestone in the country’s artillery development.
The ARVE system is based on the Finnish-made 155K98 field gun, mounted on the robust 8×8 Sisu E13TP truck chassis. It is the first Finnish 155mm artillery platform to be integrated onto a wheeled vehicle, offering increased mobility and faster deployment capabilities.
According to Patria, the ARVE can fire its first round within 90 seconds of arriving at a firing position and is able to redeploy within just 45 seconds after firing — key features for modern shoot-and-scoot artillery tactics. The howitzer boasts a versatile firing arc, with direct fire angles ranging from -60° to +90°, and indirect fire from -90° to +50°. The elevation range spans from -3° to +60°, allowing for flexible engagement of targets in various terrain conditions.
