For decades, stealth aircraft such as the F-35 and B-2 Spirit have been regarded as the West’s most decisive advantage, with radar-evading technology designed to penetrate enemy airspace undetected. Russia, however, claims it has developed a formidable countermeasure: the Nebo-M radar system, which it describes as a game-changer in modern air defence.
Unlike conventional radars that operate primarily on centimetric wavelengths, the Nebo-M functions across metre-band frequencies. This allows it to detect stealth aircraft optimised to evade traditional radar signatures, significantly reducing their survivability in contested airspace.
Moscow has reportedly deployed the Nebo-M system at key strategic locations, stretching from Kaliningrad in the west to its eastern borders, creating what it portrays as an impenetrable aerial shield.
With this move, Russia is sending a clear message: its airspace is off-limits.
