China Unveils New Weapon Designed to Counter Drone-Swarm Attacks

China has revealed a new interceptor weapon system designed to defend against drone swarms, offering a powerful close-range solution to emerging aerial threats.

The system features a tightly configured array of 16 barrels and is engineered for mobility and reconnaissance support. Its primary function is to saturate target zones with hundreds of projectiles, creating a dense defensive barrier capable of neutralising large numbers of drones in a single strike.

Among its key advantages are rapid reload capability, high rate of fire, adjustable firepower intensity, and significant destructive potential. These attributes make the weapon well-suited for deployment alongside manoeuvring ground forces, enhancing protection during operations in contested environments.

While specific technical details remain undisclosed, the system’s operational concept closely aligns with area-defence weapons like the US-made Phalanx, using a volume-based approach to destroy fast-moving or massed aerial targets.
