UK-based defence firm Cambridge Aerospace has announced a new programme to develop low-cost interceptor systems aimed at closing gaps in Britain’s air and missile defence network.
Unveiled at DSEI 2025, the company showcased two systems — Skyhammer and Starhammer. Both are tube-launched interceptors designed for rapid deployment, with ranges of approximately 30 kilometres and 10 kilometres respectively. Each system is equipped with fragmentation warheads and all-weather radar guidance, offering an affordable yet effective solution against aerial threats.
Cambridge Aerospace aims to scale production to several hundred units per month while reducing unit costs to a fraction of traditional interceptor missiles. To support this ambition, the company is also investing in the development of solid-fuel rocket motors, establishing a domestic supply chain to ensure resilience and self-sufficiency.
Discussions are already under way with the UK Ministry of Defence and several European defence ministries regarding integration and potential large-scale procurement.
