The United States has officially announced the selection of Boeing to develop the country’s first sixth-generation stealth fighter jet, designated the F-47, marking a major leap in aerial combat capabilities.
President Donald Trump confirmed Boeing’s victory in securing the multibillion-dollar contract, which will see the company manufacture the F-47 for the US Air Force. The announcement comes just over two months after China conducted performance trials for two of its own sixth-generation aircraft—an event that triggered international attention and concern among defence analysts.
This milestone represents the first major jet fighter development contract in two decades, following Lockheed Martin’s fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighter programme. Each F-47 is expected to cost several hundred million dollars, reflecting the significant advancements in stealth, avionics, and combat performance embedded in the platform.
