The ASTER 30 B1 NT is a new long-range surface-to-air missile developed under a joint Franco–Italian programme, designed to intercept threats at distances beyond 150 kilometres. Its primary role is to serve as Europe’s shield against emerging hypersonic weapons, including Russia’s Kinzhal and Zircon missiles.
The missile will equip the forthcoming SAMP/T NG air defence system, forming a central element of Europe’s wider effort to strengthen its defensive capabilities. The original ASTER 30 has already proven effective in service across several nations, but the new B1 NT variant raises the bar significantly.
With an extended range exceeding 150 kilometres and the ability to intercept medium-range ballistic missiles with ranges of up to 1,500 kilometres, the ASTER 30 B1 NT represents a major leap in Europe’s air and missile defence architecture.
