AI Education and the Future-Makers of the UAE

In a world where technological and knowledge advancements are accelerating at an unprecedented pace, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful force at the forefront of global progress. As one of the most vital tools shaping the future of humanity, AI holds transformative potential across all sectors of society. The United Arab Emirates, known for its pioneering spirit, recognised early on the strategic importance of this field and adopted ambitious visions and policies aimed at harnessing AI to serve its people and advance national development. True to its forward-looking leadership, the UAE refuses to remain on the sidelines of any breakthrough that could strengthen its regional and global leadership.

Reflecting this commitment, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, issued a decree mandating the teaching of artificial intelligence to all school students across the country. This landmark decision represents a strategic step toward preparing a generation that is innovative, skilled in future technologies, and capable of driving the knowledge economy. It is a step that aims to build a creative and intelligent society while ensuring sustainability in both resources and innovation.

Introducing AI into the national curriculum is not just a forward-thinking initiative—it is a pressing necessity in our modern era. Our wise leadership has made a sound decision in acknowledging this need. Today, AI plays a central role in nearly every aspect of life. Teaching it in schools empowers students with future-ready skills, enhances their capacity for creativity and innovation, and helps them make informed, data-driven decisions. It also ensures they are well-prepared for a future workforce shaped by technological evolution. The UAE’s continued investment in its people—especially its youth—is deeply rooted in the founding values of the nation. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may he rest in peace, once said: “True wealth lies in people, not in money or oil. The advancement of nations is measured by the level of education and culture among their people.”

Building on this enduring belief, the UAE’s leadership has prioritised its citizens, equipping them with everything they need to keep pace with global progress. The goal is clear: to build a strong, sustainable knowledge economy driven by skilled and innovative youth. The introduction of AI education is expected to significantly enhance students’ skills and ways of thinking. It will strengthen their abilities in logical analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making, while encouraging them to develop intelligent solutions that contribute to sustainable development. At the same time, it will motivate students to explore future-focused disciplines and actively participate in creating a knowledge-based society. This, in turn, reinforces the UAE’s position as a global centre for artificial intelligence and innovation.

Ultimately, AI education is more than just a school subject—it is a vision brought to life, a pathway laid toward a future led by bright minds and innovative ideas. By instilling the foundations of AI in today’s students, we are giving them the keys to creativity, leadership, and active participation in shaping tomorrow. Armed with knowledge and guided by a leadership that believes in the power of education and the potential of its people, the UAE continues its confident march into the future—placing artificial intelligence at the heart of its development plans, and empowering its youth to be genuine partners in building an intelligent, advanced, and sustainable nation.
