86 Nations Call for Safe and Trustworthy AI at India Summit

Eighty-six countries and two international organisations have called for the establishment of a “safe, robust and trustworthy” artificial intelligence system at the conclusion of the AI Summit in India.

In a joint final declaration, signatories stressed that such an approach is essential to building public trust and maximising the social and economic benefits of AI. They described artificial intelligence as a transformative force comparable to the Industrial Revolution, underscoring the need for new forms of international cooperation that bring together governments, industry, academia and civil society.

Participants agreed that AI’s full potential can only be realised when its benefits are shared equitably across humanity.

Held over five days under the theme “Wellbeing for All, Happiness for All”, the summit brought together heads of state, leaders of international organisations and executives from leading global technology companies. Discussions were structured around three core pillars: people, planet and progress.

Seven working groups were formed to develop practical proposals covering human capital development, inclusion for social empowerment, safety and reliability, resilience, innovation and efficiency, scientific advancement, equitable access to resources, and economic growth alongside social good.

Delegates also explored the impact of advanced technologies on various professions and sectors, the new skills required in evolving labour markets, and the opportunities available to start-ups and small enterprises.

The summit, hosted in New Delhi from 16 to 20 February 2026, witnessed active participation from the United Arab Emirates. His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, led the UAE delegation on behalf of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The UAE’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing international cooperation in emerging technologies. The country is set to host the AI Summit in 2028, following the 2027 edition, which will be co-hosted by the Swiss Confederation and the UAE in Geneva.

Hosting the future summit reinforces the UAE’s position as a global hub for shaping the future of technology and formulating responsible international policies, while building strategic partnerships that accelerate innovation ecosystems and harness AI solutions to drive sustainable development across vital sectors.
