Russia has reportedly integrated its new S8000 Banderol cruise missile into the Orion unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), significantly boosting the platform’s offensive capabilities and marking a notable advancement in Russia’s drone warfare technology.

The Orion, considered one of Russia’s most capable UAVs, is often compared to the US-made MQ-1 Predator. Designed for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and precision strike missions, the Orion plays a key role in Russia’s expanding unmanned aerial fleet.

Featuring a wingspan of approximately 16 metres and a maximum take-off weight of around 1,000 kilograms, the Orion can carry up to 200 kilograms of payload, including precision-guided munitions. The drone offers an endurance of up to 24 hours and operates at altitudes of up to 7,500 metres, making it well-suited for long-duration missions over a wide operational range.
