US-based General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) has unveiled the LAV 700 Desert Viper, a new-generation infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) designed to deliver superior performance in harsh desert and high-temperature environments.
The Desert Viper is a specialised evolution of the proven LAV 700 platform, featuring an 8×8 wheeled configuration optimised for mobility, endurance, and operational reliability in demanding terrain. Key enhancements focus on advanced cooling systems for both the powertrain and onboard electronics, ensuring sustained performance during prolonged operations in extreme heat.
The vehicle is equipped with a modern, modular turret that can be armed with either the Bushmaster XM913 50 mm cannon or a 30 mm automatic cannon, depending on mission requirements. In addition, the turret can be fitted with anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) launchers, significantly enhancing the vehicle’s ability to engage and destroy heavily armoured targets at stand-off ranges.
