French defence company Thales has announced the launch of its new counter-sniper system, Pocket Spot, a lightweight and portable solution designed to enable individual soldiers to detect enemy snipers and observers by identifying the retro-reflections of optical lenses, such as rifle scopes and concealed cameras.
Testing has demonstrated the system’s ability to detect threats at ranges of up to approximately 1.6 kilometres, representing a significant enhancement in the capabilities of small units and special forces operating in contested environments.
Pocket Spot enhances situational awareness on the modern battlefield, particularly in urban and mountainous terrain, while helping to reduce casualties and limit reliance on heavier fire-support assets.
