US Tests Self-Propelled Mortar System

The United States has recently conducted trials of a new self-propelled mortar system mounted on a wheeled combat vehicle.

Designated the Scorpion Light, the system is integrated onto the Polaris MRZR Alpha platform, a 6×6 military vehicle capable of high mobility across challenging terrain. The Scorpion Light can fire up to 18 rounds before relocating within minutes, offering rapid shoot-and-scoot capability.

During testing, a two-person crew successfully engaged multiple targets with precision, while also training on fast-deployment tactics and immediate withdrawal under combat conditions.

Equipped with advanced fire-control technologies, the Scorpion Light can receive targeting data and coordinates directly from drones or field command centres. This enables the system to perform automated calculations and adjust its aim within seconds, significantly enhancing its responsiveness in dynamic battlefield environments.
