French defence manufacturer MBDA has officially revealed the MISTRAL ATLAS RC, a next-generation short-range air defence (SHORAD) system operated remotely to boost crew safety and deliver rapid target engagement.
The system integrates the advanced MISTRAL 3 missile with a remote-controlled turret, mounted on robust armoured tactical vehicles such as the Spanish-built URO VAMTAC ST5. This combination offers high operational flexibility, enabling fast and effective defence against aerial threats.
The ST5 vehicle itself is engineered for versatility and rugged terrain, featuring four-wheel drive, improved off-road performance, and a payload capacity exceeding 1.5 tonnes to support turrets, ammunition, and command systems. Its modular structure allows seamless integration with a variety of weapon systems, communication technologies, and specialised mission modules.
