The United States Army, in collaboration with Lockheed Martin, has successfully conducted a high-risk flight test of the upgraded PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor, a key component of the Patriot air defence system.
Developed by Lockheed Martin, the PAC-3 MSE represents the most advanced interception capability within the Patriot system. The latest enhancements include an upgraded propulsion system featuring a dual-pulse solid rocket motor, enabling the missile to engage aerial threats at extended ranges and higher altitudes.
Compared to the standard PAC-3 missile, which has an operational range of approximately 35 kilometres, the MSE variant can intercept threats at distances exceeding 60 kilometres and altitudes of up to 20 kilometres.
