Lockheed Martin has delivered the first TPY-4 radar system to the United States Air Force, following the successful completion of early-phase testing. The handover marks a significant milestone in the Air Force’s Three-Dimensional Long-Range Radar (3DELRR) programme.
This initial delivery is the first of many TPY-4 units scheduled for deployment under the 3DELRR initiative, which aims to modernise the Air Force’s ground-based radar capabilities.
The TPY-4 features a fully digital architecture, with each transmit/receive element individually digitised. It is equipped with a cutting-edge cognitive sensing framework, enabling the radar to adapt to emerging threats and mission demands quickly.
Designed to detect smaller and more elusive next-generation threats, the TPY-4 can operate effectively in contested environments, maintaining target visibility even under active jamming. It also provides long-range early warning of missile threats, significantly improving the Air Force’s ability to respond rapidly to evolving threats.
