China is reportedly conducting intensive flight trials of its next-generation stealth fighter, the J-36, according to newly surfaced video footage from Chinese sources. Currently under development, the J-36 is poised to become the world’s largest sixth-generation combat aircraft.
The advanced fighter is expected to offer superior operational capabilities, including a significantly extended combat radius exceeding 3,500 kilometres on internal fuel alone. This marks a considerable leap from China’s fifth-generation J-20, which has a radius of around 2,000 kilometres, and far surpasses the 1,000-kilometre range of the American F-22 and F-35.
The J-36’s large frame allows for a more powerful radar system and a heavier weapons payload, alongside improved endurance for long-range missions. Notably, the aircraft features a unique tailless, triple-engine configuration combined with a twin-delta wing design—an unconventional layout aimed at boosting stealth and aerodynamic efficiency.
