US Navy tests new laser weapon

The US Navy announced that it had successfully tested a new laser weapon capable of targeting missiles and drones with high accuracy.

In a statement, the Navy said: The ground-based laser system homed in on the red drone flying by, shooting a high-energy beam invisible to the naked eye”.

It added: “The laser beam caused the drone to crash and smoke came out of its engine”.

The “National Interest” magazine reported that the test of the so-called “all-electric, high-energy laser, is the first of its kind.

Explaining: “The new weapon known as the Layered Laser Defense (LLD) can counter a variety of systems, including fast attack boats as well as unmanned aerial systems”.
