Russia began a new phase of testing for the new “Lada” class diesel-electronic silent submarine, according to informed sources in the Russian military industry.
Russia started the project to develop this submarine in 2005, and started water testing it for the first time in 2018.
The length of a Lada submarine is about 66.8 m, and has a width of 7.1 m, with a water displacement rate of 1765 tons.
These submarines can operate far from their bases on missions that last for up to 45 days, and move at a speed of 21 knots.
In addition, they are armed with six 533 mm torpedo launchers, and are powered by diesel and electric engines that emit very low noise while moving, making these submarines hard to detect by the enemy.
