Robotic combat vehicle fires laser-guided missile

BAE Systems’ Robotic Technology Demonstrator (RTD) vehicle has fired laser-guided missiles at multiple ground targets during the US Army’s tactical scenario at EDGE 22 exercise.

As the first test firing of an APKWS laser-guided missile from a robotic combat vehicle (RCV), this test represents a milestone in weapons development.

The multi-role RTD features an installed hybrid-electric motor and can be equipped with various advanced payloads such as electronic warfare sensors, various gun systems, anti-tank guided missiles, and 2.75-inch laser-guided missiles.

Ground-launched APKWS missiles provide mounted units with a unique ability to engage ground targets and unmanned aerial vehicles at distances of up to 6 km, providing soldiers with a cost-effective with the need to resort to air support.
