Australia develops new military ships for its navy

Australia is developing a new generation of military vessels for its navy. In mid-December 2021, the Australian shipyard “Osborne Naval” witnessed a ceremony dedicated to landing the main ship of the Arafura type, of which Australia seeks to develop 12 ships for its Navy.

Australian Defense Minister Peter Dutton said: “The modern Arafura-class military patrol ships are the most promising future ships to protect our country’s maritime borders. These ships will be a good asset to our military in the future.”

The length of each Arafura ship is about 80 meters, its width is 13 meters, and its displacement is 1640 tons. These ships can move at a speed of 20 knots, transport 60 people, and travel 4,440 nautical miles on each mission.

These ships are armed with 12.7 mm machine guns, 40 mm cannons, torpedo launchers, and small speedboats.
