The late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, may God have mercy on him, did not ask Khomeini on his visit to him in Tehran, after his return from exile that lasted fourteen years he spent all in Iraq, except for one thing: to return the three Emirati islands (occupied by Iran), Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa (to the Emirates). The automatic and angry Grand Ayatollah’s response was: “These islands are Iranian and they will remain Iranian until Judgment Day” !!
Abu Ammar did not answer or say even one word. He considered that his meeting with “Khomeini” had ended, so he hastened to return to where he used to stay, i.e. in the “Alawi School” that the Iranian leader had taken as his center, and here I felt, and I was one of those who accompanied Arafat, on that visit that he became painfully torn apart, that his hopes and bets on a new Iranian state had evaporated, and that he realized that this country would become a thorn in the side of the Arab nation.
Thus, Abu Ammar began his journey back to his headquarters in Beirut, passing through “Abu Dhabi,” and on that day the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “May God bless his soul,” was at the height of his political brilliance, and he was not surprised by what Yasser Arafat told him. The following days proved that all his estimates were correct, and that Khomeini’s Iran would not go towards Palestine to contribute to its liberation, as Khomeini used to say, and as it was supposed, but towards the Arab region, especially towards Iraq, which later fought with him the bloody eight-year war that Khomeini had said after it stopped: “He drenched the cease-fire like a venom!”!!
The important thing is that even after all these long years, Iran, which some Arabs remained betting on it since the “Safavid” era, through the period of the reign of Shah Reza Pahlavi and the rule of his son, Muhammad Reza Pahlavi, has proven that it does not change, and that it has remained as it was and did not receive the hands that were extended to it with brotherhood, love and sincerity .. and “God does not change the condition of a people until they change what they are in.” This neighborhood will remain the same and it may continue for many years and until most of it comes with what we do not know and our “brothers” do not know either!! The Iranians, and the fact that the march of history is an open page that we have to read very carefully, bearing in mind that new Iranian generations will come whose interests will prevail over all these historical hatreds, and this may be in a short period not far from now!!
